Advent

Advent

While the world begins to celebrate its Christmas season, the Church opens its Advent Season on Sunday, November 29th. Advent is the period of four Sundays preceding the arrival of Christmas Day. During this time Catholics can attend Mass every day and hear the word of God proclaimed by the prophets about the coming of the savior, Jesus Christ. During these four weeks we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord so that on Christmas Day we may fully appreciate the Nativity of Jesus as the greatest gift of hope to all humanity and as the first installment toward the eternal salvation of man.

During this Advent Season please visit our parish and attend Holy Mass, Evening Prayer, and Eucharistic Adoration and grow in the grace of Jesus Christ!

Patronal Feast

Patronal Feast

Bishop Edgar Da Cunha will be the principal celebrant of the Mass in honor of our patron, St. Francis Xavier, here on Thursday, December 3 at 9:00am.  All parishioners are invited to join our parish school students and staff in observing the feast day of St. Francis Xavier – priest and missionary and patron saint of our parish church.  St. Francis – Pray for us, and for our mission to the Town of Acushnet and beyond.

Blessed Thanksgiving

Monsignor Gerard O’Connor and the parish of St. Francis Xavier wish you and yours a very peaceful and blessed Thanksgiving. We pray for peace throughout the world as we are thankful for all the good things that God has bestowed upon us. We pray especially for peace in the Middle East and the protection of all those under threat from the violence of terrorism and its inexcusable hatred. We pray also for all our military personnel serving overseas or who are away from their homes during the holidays. May the Lord keep them safe and secure and return them to their families who eagerly await their return. Please join us on Thanksgiving Day for our only Mass of the day at 9am.

Rwandan Fundraiser

Thank You to all who donated individual scholarships and who bought tickets to our parish Variety Show to raise funds to send 10 Rwandan children to high school in Rwanda.  We met our goal in raising $5,000 toward this cause.  We thank all parishioners and others who continue to support this ongoing venture in favor of home grown education which can only assist in the personal and local development of the Rwandan people.

Next Adult Ed Session

Next Adult Ed Session

On Sunday, January 10th at 9:15am, and on Tuesday, January 12th at 7:00pm, Philip Martin, Chairperson of the Theological Department at Bishop Stang High School will present Apologetics 101. Philip will explain that apologetics does not mean that we are to apologize for our faith, but that we are to defend it and be prepared to answer questions about it. We answer questions about the faith especially when people want to know about “our reason for… hope” in Christ and for eternal life.
